Roadworthy and Gas Certificates

We carry out safety certificate (roadworthy) inspections, gas certificate inspections and HVRAS inspections on caravans, camper trailers and trailers at our Toowoomba workshop. All inspections are performed by qualified staff against the relevant Queensland standards. If your van needs work to pass, we can carry out the repairs on site rather than sending you elsewhere.

Safety Certificates (Roadworthy)

In Queensland the document is officially called a safety certificate, though it's widely known as a roadworthy certificate or RWC. It's required when you sell or transfer a registered caravan or trailer, re-register an unregistered one, or bring one into Queensland from interstate.

The requirement applies to trailers and caravans with an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) between 750kg and 4,500kg.

What we inspect

  • Identification and modifications
  • Lights and electrical components
  • Body and chassis
  • Suspension, wheels and tyres
  • Brakes
  • Tow couplings

How long a certificate lasts

For a private seller, a safety certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000km, whichever comes first. For licensed motor dealers it's 3 months or 1,000km.

If your van doesn't pass

We'll go through the defects with you and explain what's needed. Because we're a full repair workshop, we can quote and carry out the rectification work and then re-inspect, rather than you having to arrange repairs elsewhere.

Gas Certificates

Gas installations in a caravan need to be certified as safe and compliant. We carry out gas certificate inspections on caravans and trailers.

Gas inspections can only be performed on site at our Toowoomba workshop — they can't be done mobile.

HVRAS Inspections

HVRAS is the Queensland Government's Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme, administered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. An HVRAS inspection is generally required for heavier trailers and caravans, and for vans being registered where a standard safety certificate doesn't apply.

If you're not sure whether you need an HVRAS inspection or a safety certificate, call us and we'll work it out with you.

Interstate measuring service

We also provide a measuring service for vans registered in New South Wales.
